The CEO of HELLENiQ ENERGY, Andreas Siamisiis, held a series of meetings with top executives from the global energy market in the United Arab Emirates, where he participated in the annual Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC). Siamisiis took part in two separate conference panels alongside senior leaders from the world’s largest petroleum trading companies and energy technology firms. Siamisiis: Market disruptions are the new normal in the energy sector
The CEO of HELLENiQ ENERGY made the following key points:
– Disruptions are the new normal. Over the past few years, we have had to manage the fallout from the financial crisis, then came the pandemic, followed by the Russia-Ukraine war, and most recently the crisis in the Persian Gulf.
– Disruptions carry risks, but they also create opportunities. Companies need to build flexibility into their systems — leveraging resources, infrastructure, supply chains, and markets — and then position themselves appropriately to capitalize on the opportunities that arise.
– There needs to be a balance between growth strategy and risk management, as well as the ability to make quick decisions and act swiftly.
– At HELLENiQ ENERGY, the implementation of our transformation plan has fundamentally changed our business model. We fortified our system against the crisis in a timely manner, through supply source diversification and adequate reserves, while we operate 3 coastal refineries in the Mediterranean — a true crossroads of energy routes.
– At the EU level, the “green agenda” dominated the conversation in previous years — a strategy that could be described as somewhat one-sided. This contributed to underinvestment in the refining sector.
– We are now seeing a shift in this approach, though I am not certain whether it will be sustained.
– Energy needs are constantly growing, and we must not overlook the fact that more than 50% of the planet’s energy needs are met by hydrocarbons.
– We need to advance the energy transition, but we cannot completely eliminate hydrocarbons from the equation. Solutions must be realistic.
– When it comes to the energy transition, there is no single “magic solution,” no one technology we can rely on. A combination of technologies is required.
– Ambitions must keep pace with technological capabilities. We need all available sources in our energy mix.
ADIPEC 2025: The world’s largest international energy industry event
