Hamas contacts and the American peace plan
Earlier, the Egyptian news agency MENA reported that a Hamas delegation met in El Alamein with Egyptian Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad to discuss how to advance the American peace plan for Gaza. The Hamas delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, “reaffirmed its commitment to the success of US President Donald Trump’s plan.”
A Hamas official stated that the talks focused on “efforts being made to persuade Israel to honor the agreement, which includes a 15-point roadmap, and to begin its implementation.” The official added that the delegation would brief the Egyptian side on Israel’s ceasefire violations.
Hamas gave its approval in late July to the American 15-point roadmap, which aims to launch “the second phase of the Trump plan” for Gaza. The plan envisions the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Palestinian enclave.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the plan, demanding “genuine disarmament of Hamas.”
Jared Kushner is set to visit Israel next week in an effort to bridge the differences between the two sides.
A Hamas source stated that there are “contacts and discussions” underway with Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish mediators aimed at “persuading Israel to honor the agreement.”
