A traffic ban will be enforced across multiple areas of Zakynthos as the island is placed on heightened alert ahead of Assumption Day, due to an exceptionally high risk of wildfire ignition and spread.

Zakynthos: Traffic ban ahead of Assumption Day
Specifically, the measure prohibiting the passage, presence and movement of persons and vehicles will come into effect from 07:30 on Friday, 14 August until 07:30 on Saturday, 15 August. The ban covers NATURA protected areas, forest ecosystems, parks, groves and forest roads within the Zakynthos regional unit, due to the very high risk of wildfire outbreak.
Which areas are affected
The measure applies to the areas of Vasiliko, Vougiato, Lagkadakia, Fioliti, Galaros, Agii Pantes, Drakas, Skoulikado, Kallithea, Pigadakia, Lagopodo, Machairado, Katastari, Keri (Marathia and Apelati), Agalas, Lithakia, Koiliomeno, Maries, Agios Leon, Gyri, Kampi, Exochora, Loucha, Orthonies, Anafonitria, Volimes, Ano Volimes, Kalamaki, Bochali, Gaitani and Zakynthos town.
Authorities are also highlighting the increased danger on dead-end roads and forest locations in the areas of Volimes, Anafonitria, Maries, Exochora, Agalas, Keri, Argasi and Bochali, urging both residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel.
Permanent residents and employees working in the affected areas are exempt from the ban, solely for travel to and from their home or place of work, as are those using the main road network — unless otherwise decided by the competent authorities.
Enforcement of the measure and the issuing of violations have been undertaken by the Zakynthos Police Directorate, the Fire Service, the Forest Directorate and the Municipal Police.
A €300 administrative fine will be imposed for each violation of the ban.
