A new session of the Civil Protection Coordination Body was held today, chaired by Evangelos Tournas, focusing on the extreme wildfire risk forecast for tomorrow, Friday, August 14. During the session, the minister stressed that prevailing conditions are extreme and called for heightened readiness and full mobilization of all agencies involved, stating that “we will treat areas in risk category 4 as if they were in category 5.”
He noted that the deployment of Hellenic Police, Armed Forces, Fire Service, and volunteer units is serving as a deterrent; however, fires that do break out are particularly aggressive due to weather conditions. The goal, he emphasized, is the immediate response to every new outbreak before it escalates and puts human lives, property, and the natural environment at risk.
