“When two agreements and conventions with Saudi Arabia were debated and put forward for ratification” approximately two years ago, “I was, once again, the only party leader who spoke about these matters in an empty parliament,” stressed the president of Course of Freedom, Zoe Konstantopoulou, in a social media post.
Among other things, she underlined “the unwavering stance of Course of Freedom against the specific foreign policy choices” of the government. According to Ms. Konstantopoulou, “Course of Freedom voted against both conventions,” while “PASOK, SYRIZA, and Tsipras voted YES.”
The full text of Ms. Konstantopoulou’s post is as follows:
“It was 2 years, 1 month, and 8 days ago — July 3, 2024 — when I delivered this speech in parliament regarding two agreements and conventions with Saudi Arabia, which had been signed during the previous Mitsotakis government term (2021–22) and were brought forward for ratification during this current term. I was (once again) the only party leader who spoke about these matters in an empty parliament. I have spoken about Saudi Arabia dozens of times, both inside and outside parliament, over all these recent years — going back to when the Tsipras-Kammenos government was selling weapons to the Saudi regime while that state was committing war crimes against children in Yemen.
Course of Freedom voted against both conventions with Saudi Arabia and has taken a firm stance against such alliances, which expose the country to danger as well as international condemnation. PASOK, SYRIZA, and Tsipras voted YES on both conventions with Saudi Arabia — conventions that speak of “piles of Greeks that will emerge” and provide for serious derogations from human rights law and the European Convention on Human Rights.
They voted YES to an alliance with a state that violates human rights and international humanitarian law — a state that ordered and orchestrated the brutal murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. These are internationally known facts that caused global outrage. When Joe Biden visited Saudi Arabia in 2022 as sitting US President, he was condemned by his own party, the Democrats.
Yet in Greece in 2024, shortly after the expulsion of Avgenakis — who had physically assaulted an airport employee — both agreements were enthusiastically backed, hands and feet, by New Democracy, PASOK, and SYRIZA under Tsipras. And now, in 2026, PASOK, SYRIZA, and Tsipras — concealing the fact that they supported this unholy alliance — are shadow-boxing, issuing press releases. There are no “repentant” politicians here, no “reborn” ones, no “wiser” ones, no “capable” ones. They are simply “capable of anything,” driven solely by the pursuit of power.
Political deception is their oldest and most practiced art.
From 2015 to 2023 — for eight years — there was no parliamentary opposition to counter them. Course of Freedom was not in parliament, and however much we spoke on these issues, media coverage was virtually nonexistent. Now, Course of Freedom is here, inside parliament, to act in a timely manner, to speak plainly, to intervene boldly, and to reveal the #truth.
That is why it is a thorn in their side. And it will continue to be. It will keep speaking out and intervening on all issues — including foreign policy matters — in defense of justice, society, people, their rights, and, of course, in defense of our long-suffering country, betrayed from within“.
