The Political Committee of the Hellenic Left Alliance (ELAS) convened today, Friday (16/10), in an expanded session focused on the party’s programmatic development and initiatives aimed at rebuilding the broader progressive political bloc. In addition to regular Political Committee members, the session was attended by policy coordinators, deputy coordinators, and members of the Organizational Bureau, reflecting a broad political and organizational representation.
ELAS Programmatic Congress set for late January 2027
ELAS president Alexis Tsipras opened the proceedings with a keynote address, outlining the framework for the party’s political discussions and next steps.
According to sources, among the decisions expected to be reached is the scheduling of the Hellenic Left Alliance’s Programmatic Congress for late January or early February 2027.
The upcoming Congress aims to serve as a pivotal milestone in shaping a modern, progressive, and democratic political platform — one with a clear programmatic identity and concrete directions for addressing the country’s most pressing challenges.
Key issues on the agenda
The pre-congress dialogue is expected to center on critical social, economic, and institutional issues, with particular emphasis on social justice, democratic participation, and sustainable development. Discussions will also explore opportunities for rebuilding the progressive camp and forging broader political and social convergences.
The central goal is to develop a coherent and actionable plan for political change — one that can serve as the foundation of an alternative progressive governance proposal for the country.
In this context, the Programmatic Congress is being viewed as the starting point of a new cycle of political dialogue and collective action, aimed at strengthening ELAS’s social outreach and creating the conditions for wider progressive collaboration.
