A family outing at the beach in Glyfa Vartholomiou, Ilia, turned into a nightmare when a 31-year-old mother from Pyrgos suffered a serious neck injury on Friday afternoon (August 7) after diving into the sea.
She was injured in front of her two young children
According to a report by patrisnews, the 31-year-old had gone to the beach with her husband and their two minor children. While they were in the water, her husband reportedly lifted her onto his shoulders before she dove in. However, as she was thrown backward during the dive, she appears to have sustained a serious neck injury. The scenes that followed were dramatic, as the incident unfolded right before the eyes of the couple’s young children.
She was rushed to hospital
The 31-year-old mother was immediately transported to Pyrgos General Hospital, but due to the severity of her injuries, it was deemed necessary to transfer her to the University Hospital of Patras in Rio, where she is currently receiving treatment. According to the report, her life is not in immediate danger; however, the neck injury is considered extremely serious, and doctors are working to minimize the long-term consequences as much as possible. The young mother’s condition is being closely monitored by medical staff.
Her husband was arrested
Following the incident, authorities proceeded to arrest the woman’s husband as part of an investigation into the exact circumstances under which the unfortunate mother was injured. According to the report, investigators are looking into whether the injury was caused by criminal negligence.
