“Steadfast, resolute, and unwaveringly committed to institutional integrity, Ioannis Varvitsiotis played a central role at critical moments in our country’s history, leaving behind a rare legacy of political civility,” the Prime Minister wrote in a post shared immediately after the passing of the historic New Democracy figure became known.
“Even after his withdrawal from the political stage, his presence in public life remained active — through his measured interventions over the years and through his contribution as a scholar of our country’s historical monuments, which he admired throughout his life. Indeed, his interests beyond politics were many,” Mitsotakis added in the same post.
“With emotion and feelings of respect, love, and sincere gratitude, I bid farewell to Ioannis Varvitsiotis — a politician defined by dedication and service, by devotion to democracy and the progress of our country,” said Kostas Karamanlis in a statement.
