New Democracy continues to maintain a commanding lead over its political rivals, according to the three most recent opinion polls published over the past two weeks. Despite growing support for ELAS, New Democracy’s lead remains substantial, ranging between 9.3 and 12.7 percentage points. Data from GPO, ALCO, and Interview paint a political landscape in which New Democracy holds firm in first place, while the battle for second position is undergoing significant reshuffling.
What the polls show
According to GPO, New Democracy’s electoral support stands at 29.3%, recording a marginal change of -0.1% compared to the previous survey.
ELAS rises to 16.6%, up by 0.3%. Different figures, but a similar ranking picture, emerge from ALCO’s survey on voting intention among valid ballots. New Democracy stands at 24.6%, with ELAS close behind at 15.3%. Both parties show gains of 0.6% compared to the previous measurement conducted at the end of June.
New Democracy maintains an 11-percentage-point lead in the voting intention estimate from Interview’s poll for POLITIC, gathering 26.8%, while ELAS comes in second at 15.8%. PASOK follows in third place with 10.1%, while Greek Solution records 8.9%, narrowing the gap between the two parties to just 1.2 percentage points.
PASOK’s decline
A common trend across all three surveys is the declining support for PASOK. GPO estimates the party’s electoral influence at 10.8%, a drop of 0.7% compared to the previous June measurement (11.5%). PASOK also records a decline in ALCO’s figures, while in the Interview poll it finds itself under more pressure from fourth place than it is putting on second, sitting at 10.1% with Greek Solution close behind at 8.9% — a gap of just 1.2 points.
Hope for Democracy, the party led by Maria Karystianou, also appears to be on a downward trajectory. According to GPO’s measurement, the party’s electoral influence now stands at 7%, down 0.8% compared to June. The party shows even steeper losses in ALCO’s survey, with voting intention among valid ballots calculated at 6.4%, compared to 7.8% the previous month.
