Kostas Bakoyannis leveled sharp criticism at Haris Doukas over the state of cleanliness in Athens during a session of the Municipal Council. The opposition leader on the city council drew attention to overflowing bins, garbage on the streets, foul odors, and a general sense of neglect in public spaces, arguing that this is the daily reality experienced by residents of the Greek capital. “Overflowing bins, garbage on the streets, filth in public spaces, foul odors, and the image of abandonment are not a media narrative. They are the daily life of Athenians,” he stated emphatically.

Bakoyannis: The municipal authority dismisses citizens’ complaints
“The municipal authority, however, dismisses citizens’ complaints and tells us that everything is a conspiracy against them. Yesterday at the city council meeting, they refused to even listen to our proposals. They think they are targeting us, but in reality they are insulting the very Athenians who live with this situation every single day.
The longer they refuse to face reality, the bigger the problem will grow. And Athens will continue to pay the price of inaction.”
