Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a clear pre-election message, stating that his government has “very good chances” of securing a third consecutive term, while presenting moderate centrist politics as the primary counterweight to populism. Speaking in a discussion with General Catalyst CEO Hemant Taneja at an Endeavor Greece event, the Prime Minister stressed that electoral success depends not only on political messaging, but above all on delivering on the commitments made to citizens.
Mitsotakis: The center beats populism through results and consistency
“You can win elections by following a moderate, centrist policy. You can defeat the populists by keeping your promises,” he said pointedly, adding that “today we have very good chances of winning a third term, because we approach governance with great seriousness.”

The message heading into the ballot box
The Prime Minister’s remarks outlined the core pillars of New Democracy’s strategy ahead of the next elections: political stability, continued reforms, and a focus on measurable results. He also linked government policy to Greece’s international role, emphasizing that the country can serve as a model of leadership during a period of heightened global uncertainty.
Free markets and a strong state
Discussing the governance model his government promotes, the Prime Minister described a combination of free-market principles, state oversight, and fiscal responsibility. He noted that a modern centrist government can champion entrepreneurship while simultaneously preserving the state’s role in regulating markets and protecting social cohesion.
He placed particular emphasis on the need to improve public services, and warned that widening social inequality can pose serious risks to societal cohesion. As a flagship example of government policy, he cited a 41% increase in the minimum wage, arguing that this rise outpaces inflation and represents a tangible improvement in living standards.
