The death of Lorenzo Carriere on Wednesday, July 15, at the age of 51, is being mourned as a sudden and unexpected loss. The son of Matoula — born Diamanto Koutropoulou, the beloved Greek actress and singer — is reported to have been dealing with a serious health condition in recent months, though the exact nature of his illness has not been publicly disclosed. Lorenzo Carriere had captivated audiences as a contestant on the reality TV show “Bar”, which aired from the winter of 2001 through the spring of 2002. It was there that he met Giorgos Eleftheras, with whom he formed a close friendship, and the two later went on to form the music group “Friends Forever” (Φίλοι για πάντα).
Lorenzo was also the son of Italian Roberto Carriere, who, following his separation from Matoula, married Marialena Oikonomidou, with whom he had two children. Lorenzo himself was married to Elena Katrava, and together they had two sons — Alessandro, now 16, and Roberto, now 14. Those closest to the family will recall the period during which his mother publicly spoke about a distance that had grown between the two of them.
