Union: Commitment to cooperation with the State and supply chain, always for the benefit of Greek consumers
In this context, they noted that prices for standardized foods and all consumer goods distributed through supermarkets in Greece are formed at extremely low levels compared to the European average, as reflected in the most recent available data. Specifically, in May 2026, inflation in our country’s supermarkets was 1.14% (IELKA), significantly lower than the corresponding food inflation in Greece (3.5% according to ELSTAT) and food inflation in the Eurozone (2% according to Eurostat).
The Union reiterated its longstanding commitment to cooperation with the State and the supply chain, always for the benefit of Greek consumers, and confirmed that if the food and consumer products industry proceeds with price reductions, supermarkets will enhance them and pass them directly to the shelves.
Finally, it was emphasized that the voluntary framework for stable and reduced prices should cover basic consumer goods and it is necessary to allow the required preparation time for both industries and retail.
