Volos mayor Achilleas Beos caused a sensation with his statements against Greece’s participation in Eurovision. Through a social media post, he expressed his strong dissatisfaction with both singer Aquila who represented our country and the music competition’s presenters.
Video with fiery statements from Achilleas Beos
On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the mayor of Volos published a video on his personal Facebook account, where he launched harsh criticism of the Greek delegation at the European music institution. In his message, Beos focused on the image broadcast internationally, expressing his disappointment with the result.
Presenters Kapoutzidis and Kozakou under fire
Achilleas Beos didn’t limit himself to criticizing the artist who took the Eurovision stage. The mayor of Volos also turned against the competition’s presenters, Giorgos Kapoutzidis and Maria Kozakou. According to his statements, the overall presentation of Greece’s participation didn’t meet his expectations, provoking his angry reaction.
Indeed, he didn’t hesitate to reference both private channel owners – who he said have been occupied for 30 days with Aquila’s appearance – and ERT which according to him “went too far” and presents a “wrong” image of the country.
At the beginning of the video, the mayor of Volos asked his followers and viewers not to call him “sexist, racist, phobic” because of what he would say next.
“Everyone’s personal life deserves respect and praise, but only to a point. Only to a point! You’ve gone too far. You’ve gone too far! Every day an image, a guy shaking his ass. Come on, aren’t you a little ashamed?” said Achilleas Beos, among other things, in the new video he uploaded about Eurovision.
“Friends, good morning from sunny Volos.
Be careful not to start the nonsense with what I’ll say about being sexist, racist, phobic and other irrational things.
First of all, regarding this young man, Aquila, I find him particularly likeable and I say this sincerely. But only to a point. I’ve been going crazy for 30 days and more that you’re dealing with one topic – what is the subject, so I can understand it too.
A tragic image is being presented for Greece, with a kid shaking his ass. You tell me, is this Greece? Come on, aren’t you a little ashamed? What do you think, are the Kapoutzidises and Aquilas role models for society and young children? Come on, will you get a little serious?
I make an appeal both to the businessmen of the major private channels, but primarily to Greek state television. What is this, will you put on the brakes? Enough!
It’s not up for discussion: everyone’s personal life deserves respect and praise, but only to a point. Only to a point! You’ve gone too far. You’ve gone too far! Every day an image, a guy shaking his ass. Come on, aren’t you a little ashamed? Aren’t you a little ashamed? All of us Greeks – at least the majority – who believe in religion, homeland, family, we don’t like these things and these aren’t our beliefs. If these are your beliefs, keep them to yourselves. Enough already. Enough already!”
