Regarding the strong gas odor that has been present in the last hour in the southern suburbs of Attica and has caused intense concern, the mayor of Agios Dimitrios, Stelios Mamalakis, spoke to parapolitika.gr. “There was a recommendation to school principals to proceed with necessary actions and evacuate schools if they judge that the smell is very intense,” Mr. Mamalakis stated, noting that one middle school in the area was evacuated.
“The smell was particularly intense, which is why the City Hall was evacuated and we proceeded to shut off the gas supplies,” he added, noting that this is a widespread situation for which there is still no official information.
