In Giannitsa, an off-duty municipal police officer intervened in a serious incident involving a 25-year-old woman who, according to a Star TV report, was being pursued by her 30-year-old ex-partner. Giorgos Gogos, a municipal police officer serving the Municipality of Pella and a certified volunteer rescuer, noticed what was happening on a main road in the city and rushed to help the young woman, who was fleeing on foot. A restraining order had already been issued against the 30-year-old, prohibiting him from approaching her.

Giannitsa: The municipal officer’s intervention
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon and, as Giorgos Gogos described in an interview with Star TV journalist Giannis Sotiropoulos, the situation he encountered was extremely serious. According to his account, the woman was in a state of psychological collapse, and after the 30-year-old was removed from the scene, she fell into his arms and thanked him for his intervention.
“It could have been another abuse incident — it could have gone as far as femicide, even homicide. The girl was in a complete psychological breakdown. The moment the perpetrator left the scene, she fell straight into my arms and kept saying: ‘Thank you so much, God sent you, thank you so much…'” the municipal officer recounted.
Giorgos Gogos then provided his own detailed account of what he witnessed before managing to get the 25-year-old away from the vehicle. He explained that by the time he arrived, the 30-year-old had already forced the woman into the car. He intervened, pulled the man away from the vehicle, and gave the 25-year-old the time she needed to get out.
“By the time I reached the scene, the driver had gotten out, grabbed the woman, and thrown her from the driver’s seat into the passenger seat like a sack of potatoes. When I arrived, the driver had gotten back inside the vehicle. I reached in through the window, managed to grab him and pull him out of the car, and gave the woman the time she needed to get out as well. I then took the girl with me and we went straight to the local police station to take the necessary steps.”

Following his intervention, the municipal officer accompanied the 25-year-old woman to the local police station so that the appropriate procedures could be carried out. The fact that a restraining order had already been in place against her ex-partner — prohibiting him from coming near her — adds yet another grave dimension to the case.
Meanwhile, another incident of violence against a woman is currently under investigation in Igoumenitsa. A 24-year-old woman is hospitalized in serious condition following an incident involving her 29-year-old partner. According to reports, a heated argument preceded the incident, during which the man accelerated the vehicle while the woman was on the hood of the car. The 24-year-old fell onto the road and sustained severe traumatic brain injuries, leaving her in intensive care. The 29-year-old has been charged with attempted murder and was brought before a prosecutor.
