The tension in the Aegean Sea is entering a new phase as Ankara appears to be now putting into practice its “Blue Homeland” strategy, combining legislative consolidation of its claims with challenging moves on the ground. The climate of concern in Athens is intensifying after the new harassment incident involving the vessel “Ocean Link”, which was carrying out underwater cable laying work between Astypalea and Kos, in international waters. According to sources, a Turkish missile boat approached the area and via radio challenged the legitimacy of the operations, claiming that the location falls within Turkish jurisdiction.
The Greek side reacted immediately, with the frigate “Adrias” rushing to the area to monitor the situation and ensure the continuation of the work.
