Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke today, Wednesday (29/4), about the difficulties facing Muslims in countries experiencing warfare, making clear criticisms toward the West. “The so-called civilized world is playing the ‘three monkeys,'” he stated characteristically, using a proverb originating from Japan.
Erdogan: “We are going through a painful period”
“As Muslims we are going through a difficult and painful period. From Palestine to Lebanon, from the Gulf to Sudan, from Somalia to Yemen, wherever we turn our gaze, unfortunately we face tears,” the Turkish leader said.
He continued: “In these days of trial, where the so-called civilized world is playing the ‘three monkeys’ (a Japanese phrase interpreted as someone’s desire to avoid hearing about something bad), infants in cradles and innocent civilians are being brutally slaughtered. Today we all see together the true face of those who for years, with an arrogant attitude, spoke at every opportunity about justice and equality.”
Erdogan: “Do not cut the bonds between yourselves”
“I want to express this clearly: to pass this trial, there is no other way than to hold tightly to the Quran. To overcome this trial, we have no choice but to believe in each other, to trust and support one another,” Erdogan continued. “As Muslims, we are obligated to set aside discord, strife and hostility, as well as untimely and meaningless confrontations, and become one body. Do not turn against each other, because then you will be weakened and lose your strength. We must apply this divine warning to every aspect of our lives.
Do not cut the bonds between yourselves. Do not turn your backs on each other. Do not harbor hatred. Do not be jealous of one another. O servants of God, be brothers. Our guide and model must be in the strongest way this advice of the Prophet, the Seal of Prophets. Otherwise, we will not be able to overcome these difficulties, surmount the obstacles before us and put an end to these sufferings. We will be patient.
We will not lose our hope. We will unite tightly, like the bricks of a wall. And all together, with God’s help, we will build a peaceful future without oppression and oppressors,” he added.
