Donald Trump warned that the United States is ready to restart military operations against Iran if the ongoing peace talks in Pakistan fail to reach an agreement. This statement follows the two-week temporary ceasefire agreed upon on Tuesday. In an interview with the New York Post, the American president stated that US warships are being re-equipped with advanced weapons systems in anticipation of potentially resuming operations.
His remarks came shortly after Vice President JD Vance departed for Islamabad, where he will participate in negotiations alongside special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, aiming to achieve a final peace agreement. “We’ll know within about 24 hours whether the talks will be successful,” Trump stated, expressing skepticism about the Iranian side’s position. As he argued, the US has already moved to strengthen naval forces with advanced military equipment, emphasizing that if negotiations fail, these weapons will be used.
According to sources, Iran is expected to be represented in the talks by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. During previous contacts before hostilities began, Tehran had emphasized that it considers uranium enrichment its inalienable right.
Trump: We’re dealing with people we don’t know if they’re telling the truth or not
Trump expressed doubts about the Iranian leadership’s intentions, noting that positions presented in private talks differ from public statements. “We’re dealing with people we don’t know if they’re telling the truth or not,” Trump stated. “In front of us, they say they’re getting rid of all nuclear weapons, that everything has disappeared. And then they go to the press and say: ‘No, we want to enrich.’ So we’ll find out.”
