The transmittal documents related to two criminal cases regarding the OPEKEPE affair have reached Parliament. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has proceeded with the formation of criminal proceedings concerning potential acts related to the management of European subsidies within the framework of OPEKEPE operations.
One case concerns the former leadership of the Ministry of Rural Development (Spilios Livanos and Foteini Arampatzi) in 2021, while the second includes the names of 11 MPs for whom Parliament is requested to lift immunity in order to investigate their potential criminal responsibility.
In this context, Parliament is now called upon to:
– decide on lifting the immunity of the 11 MPs,
– as well as whether to initiate the procedure for establishing a preliminary investigation committee for the former government officials.
It should be noted that for both Spilios Livanos and Foteini Arampatzi, due to their status, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office transmits the case file to Parliament, requesting the activation of the prescribed procedure to investigate potential criminal responsibilities through the establishment of a preliminary investigation committee. It is reminded that to establish a preliminary investigation committee, there must be a proposal signed by 30 MPs. Currently, the only party that can submit an independent proposal is PASOK.
