A 24-hour strike for Saturday, February 28, 2026 has been declared by ADEDY, calling on all public sector workers to participate in rallies across the country to mark the third anniversary of the Tempi train crash. “We will not normalize the crime of Tempi, what preceded it, and what followed,” the Federation’s announcement states. It continues: “the deaths in Mandra and Mati, the human lives lost in floods and fires. As ADEDY, we call on public sector workers to show a massive, militant presence together with their unions and federations, alongside all workers and youth, at the major rally on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Syntagma Square and corresponding demonstrations across Greece.”

How public transport will operate on February 28 during the ADEDY strike for Tempi
Administrative councils of STASY employee unions announced their participation in Saturday’s February 28 demonstrations. According to the metro workers’ announcement, a work stoppage will take place from the start of operations until 9:00 AM. The decision was made following a request from the Association of Tempi Disaster Victims, which asked for the STASY network’s assistance to facilitate the movement of citizens participating in the rally at Syntagma Square at 12:00 noon.
Workers on Metro Line 1 (former ISAP) and the Tram announced they will participate with work stoppages. Specifically, Metro Line 1 (ISAP) and the Tram will operate from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM to facilitate citizens wanting to participate in the demonstration in downtown Athens.
February 28 strike: Trains immobilized – Ships docked at ports
Railway workers are also proceeding with a 24-hour strike the same Saturday, as announced by the sector’s trade union organizations. Hellenic Train informed passengers that due to the strike, “no services will operate on the entire network.”
The same day, PNO declared a nationwide strike, resulting in ships remaining docked at ports across the country from 00:01 to 24:00 on Saturday. In its announcement, the Federation emphasizes: “The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation and the maritime family know firsthand that compliance with safety rules and measures is vital, and when these are violated, the results are unfortunately tragic. There are many examples that have occurred in maritime, land, and air transport.”
“Maritime workers, with this decision, pay tribute to our colleagues and fellow human beings who have lost their lives in such accidents,” the announcement adds.
“They simultaneously remind that the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation will continue to intervene intensively with all available forces to ensure that protecting human life at sea becomes reality everywhere and is not just a slogan.”
February 28 strike: Athens Labor Center participation
The Athens Labor Center (EKA) is also participating in the nationwide February 28 demonstrations, calling for strikes and rallies.
As stated in its announcement, “three years after the premeditated crime at Tempi, which cost the lives of 57 people and shocked the entire country, we cannot and will not normalize the crime. The main trial begins a few days later, on March 23.”
EKA further notes that “before and after the Tempi tragedy, the crimes are many: Mandra, Mati, floods and fires that cost human lives. Workplaces, neighborhoods, public transport and communications have been transformed into a vast valley of Tempi, with 201 workplace accidents in 2025 alone.”
Retail workers join the Tempi strike
The Federation of Private Employees of Greece states: “We continue on Saturday, February 28, workers in commerce, services and information technology, express deliveries, security and cleaning participate fully in the 24-hour nationwide strike declared by the Federation of Private Employees of Greece and in union rallies.”
