According to well-informed sources at parapolitika.gr, hunger striker Aristotelis Chantzis — who has been protesting over the refugee housing complex on Alexandras Avenue in Athens — was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Evangelismos Hospital in Athens a few hours ago.
According to those sources, he is currently in generally good condition, with all vital organs functioning well. He is responsive and communicating with those around him, and while he is not on a ventilator, he is receiving supplemental oxygen — not at a high-flow rate.
However, the refugee housing community is telling a different story. They claim that Aristotelis Chantzis “is experiencing multi-organ failure, including cardiac damage, liver dysfunction, and respiratory failure requiring high-flow oxygen therapy, along with rhabdomyolysis, bone marrow suppression, and electrolyte imbalances — all in the context of prolonged fasting and compounded by severe refeeding syndrome.”
