According to ELSTAT, annual inflation in Greece reached 2.5% last January, down from 2.6% recorded in December 2025, while on a monthly basis consumer prices decreased by 0.8%. It should be noted that according to Eurostat’s preliminary data (flash estimate), inflation in Greece reached 2.8% in January.
Specifically, ELSTAT, in its announcement on 10/2/2026, informed users about the revision work on CPI and HICP regarding i) the implementation of the new COICOP18 classification in the National and Harmonized CPI ii) the change of the reference year to 2025=100.0 in the Harmonized CPI and iii) the introduction of Gambling into the CPI and HICP. The revision of the National and Harmonized CPI is included in ELSTAT’s Annual Statistical Program for 2026. The implementation of the new classification will be combined with the use of a new electronic application for data collection and processing.

Comparing the General CPI for January 2026 with the corresponding index for January 2025 showed an increase of 2.5%, compared to an increase of 2.7% recorded in the corresponding comparison between 2025 and 2024. The General CPI for January 2026, compared to December 2025, showed a decrease of 0.8%, compared to a decrease of 0.7% recorded in the corresponding comparison of the previous year. The average CPI for the twelve months from February 2025 to January 2026, compared to the corresponding index for the twelve months from February 2024 to January 2025, showed an increase of 2.5%, compared to an increase of 2.7% recorded in the corresponding comparison between the twelve months from February 2024 to January 2025 and the twelve months from February 2023 to January 2024.
