After the vulgar attack with inappropriate characterizations against Kyriakos Mitsotakis, launched by agricultural unionist Kostas Anestidis, the government clarifies that the latter was an active member of New Democracy until 2019, and that there is no question of his presence in the discussion between the prime minister and farmers on Monday afternoon. Without appearing repentant, Mr. Anestidis, despite the heavy expressions against the prime minister, stated that he wishes to go to the Maximos Mansion “to reveal some truths,” estimating that for this reason he received a new attack, meaning the freezing of his bank accounts.
Pavlos Marinakis responded with clear statements to the agricultural unionist, speaking on OREN and clarifying that there is no question of his presence at the prime minister’s meeting with farmers. “Long before the video (with the insults against the prime minister) Mr. Anestidis’s case could not be tolerated. The video confirms this stance, it exceeds the limits of vulgarity,” Mr. Marinakis said.
However, Mr. Anestidis insists on accusations toward the prime minister, emphasizing that his confrontation concerns exclusively farmers’ demands. “He is my prime minister and I am elected to convey the demands of the agricultural world. They don’t want me there, they fear what they will face,” he concluded.
Pavlos Marinakis: Anestidis is no longer even on the lists of inactive New Democracy members
Earlier, the government spokesperson announced that “Mr. Anestidis was an active member of New Democracy until 2019, since then he was not active and following what has happened these days he is no longer even on the lists of inactive New Democracy members, he has been removed from the lists, there is no question of his presence in the discussion.”
As Mr. Marinakis noted, “Kyriakos Mitsotakis fought against unhealthy minorities within the party with people who believe they can pressure through trade union organizations. Such people, both for the video and for what is being investigated, have no place in the meeting.”
He also stated that “we expect the list of farmers during the day. I think the two conditions are self-evident, logical and no one disagrees: one is that roads should be open because people have suffered a lot and the second is that the prime minister should not negotiate with those who are under investigation or have shown illegal behavior like the bullies who broke patrol cars.”
The incident occurred at the agricultural blockade in Malgara, where Anestidis used extremely offensive expressions in front of journalists, when they approached him to make statements about the development of agricultural mobilizations.
Anestidis’s “apology”
The agricultural unionist earlier apologized for the insults he launched against the prime minister. Speaking on ANT1 on Friday morning 16/01, Mr. Anestidis claimed his statements were made “by oversight” and “off air.” However, after persistent questions, he stated he apologizes, emphasizing that “there is no problem.”
Mr. Anestidis mentioned he has a straightforward character and what he expresses “comes from his soul,” whether positive or negative words.
Anestidis: I will go to Maximos Mansion to reveal some truths
The agricultural unionist added that his mobilization was directed against policy and not on a personal level, claiming that “the personal attack did not start from him.” Despite the heavy expressions against the prime minister, he stated he wishes to go to Maximos Mansion “to reveal some truths,” estimating that for this reason he received a new attack, meaning the freezing of his bank accounts.
Meanwhile, he spoke of European Prosecutor’s Office involvement, claiming that a police officer sought him again to serve him an order, 25 days after he had already received it. As he mentioned, he was informed that his relevant request was rejected, with the reasoning that he will become aware of the file against him when called to give explanations.
In closing, Mr. Anestidis stated he has no personal issue with the prime minister, emphasizing that his confrontation concerns exclusively farmers’ demands. “He is my prime minister and I am elected to convey the demands of the agricultural world. They don’t want me there, they fear what they will face,” he concluded.
The vulgar attack with unprecedented insults against Mitsotakis
The agricultural unionist, who is being investigated for illegal subsidies and for this reason his accounts have been frozen by prosecutorial order, had said that the “microphones I will shove up Mitsotakis’s a**. The b****** will be jumping around.” One of the journalists present at the scene advised him not to say such things and “play” them anywhere, with Anestidis showing his genitals and saying that whatever the government was going to do to him, it has already done.
This specific incident was recorded Tuesday evening, a few hours after the meeting other farmer representatives had with the prime minister. During that meeting, additional support measures for the primary sector were announced, aimed at relieving farmers.
At the same time, a major issue arises as farmers in Malgara appointed him their representative at the Maximos meeting with the prime minister.
