The mayor of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, Grigoris Konstantellos, provided details about the shocking bus crash that occurred on Karamanlis Avenue (coastal road) at the height of A’ Beach in Voula, speaking on Parapolitika 90.1 with Thanasis Fouskidis and Stella Gantona.
Grigoris Konstantellos: There are many injured passengers
“There are many injured passengers. Fortunately, most of them appear to be lightly injured, in the sense that they are getting into ambulances, they got into ambulances and are being transported to hospitals” emphasized Mr. Konstantellos.
According to the mayor, the first bus “was waiting at the stop, an articulated bus, at the stop in front of A’ beach in Voula and a second non-articulated bus came, which hit it from behind almost without brakes. The rear bus was almost full, the passengers were young people who were apparently going to places like Varkiza, Saronida, Lagonisi and essentially most of the approximately 30 to 32 injured so far were from the rear bus“. Thus, the majority of the injured were from the rear bus.
“I think the traffic police are already there. From the first moment they have taken charge to be able to take statements. Because you know that spot is a straight road” he added, trying to explain the cause of the collision and added again about the injured: “There are only injured people. I think two of the injured are more serious. Three is the information from the hospital. That’s the most important thing. They are not in danger“.
According to Mr. Konstantellos, the circumstances of the accident are important to investigate. “Civil protection, because it has a station nearby, arrived there in almost 3-4 minutes. And the moment civil protection arrived, the first ambulances arrived. That is, the response of EKAB this time, because we must say the bad things, we must also say the good things, EKAB’s response was there from the first moment. It was an immediate response” he noted.
