Criminal charges for serious felonies and two misdemeanors have been filed in connection with the massive tax evasion case involving the “Choriatiko” bakery chain.
Specifically, the 59 individuals arrested face criminal prosecution — on a case-by-case basis — for the following offenses: directing, forming, and joining a criminal organization; fraud against the Greek state and public legal entities exceeding €120,000; tax evasion exceeding €150,000 through the submission of inaccurate declarations and failure to remit VAT; aiding and abetting tax evasion; failure to make timely payment of employer and employee contributions (misdemeanor); forgery involving amounts exceeding €120,000; collective and continuous procurement; joint robbery; joint fraud (misdemeanor); repeated violation of residence restrictions; and aggravated money laundering.
The case file has been referred to an investigating magistrate, and two auxiliary magistrates have also been appointed — given the large number of defendants — in order to expedite proceedings. The accused are expected to request and be granted time extensions before submitting their statements of defense.
