Metropolitan Eireneos of Lampi, Syvritos and Sfakia submitted his resignation today at the opening of the proceedings of the Holy Provincial Synod of the Church of Crete.
As the announcement characteristically states: “The Holy Provincial Synod of the Church of Crete convened today, December 9, 2025, in Session, at its headquarters in Heraklion, with the presence of all its Members in order to discuss the matter of the Holy Metropolis of Lampi, Syvritos and Sfakia. At the beginning of its proceedings, His Eminence Metropolitan Eireneos submitted his resignation. Following this, it was unanimously decided that a Synodical Delegation should travel to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, consisting of His Eminence Archbishop Eugenios of Crete, President of the Holy Synod, His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Ierapetra and Sitia, and Mr. Dimitrios Milathianakis, Archon Protekdikos of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, to meet with His Divine All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.”
