Shock was caused by the armed attack against two members of the National Guard in Washington, with Donald Trump characterizing it as a “terrorist act” and “crime against humanity.” “The hearts of all Americans are tonight with these two members of the West Virginia National Guard and their families. The love of our entire country accompanies them and we lift them up in our prayers,” he stated.
Trump: Attack suspect entered country from Afghanistan in 2021
Trump added that, despite the grief for the wounded, he feels “righteous anger and determination” and emphasized: “I am determined to ensure that the beast that committed this atrocity will pay the heaviest possible price.” According to him, the Department of Homeland Security estimates that the suspect “is a foreigner, who entered the country from Afghanistan” and was transported “by the Biden administration in September 2021 with the notorious flights that everyone was talking about.” He further claimed that the suspect’s stay status was extended with legislation signed by Joe Biden, whom he characterized as “catastrophic” and “the worst in the country’s history.”

In his statement he emphasized that the attack highlights “the greatest threat to national security” of the US, saying that “the previous administration let in 20 million unknown and uncontrolled foreigners from around the world”. He also referred to Minnesota, where, as he claimed, “hundreds of thousands of citizens are destroying the state,” while he spoke of “Somali gangs from a country without government, laws or infrastructure.”
“We will not tolerate such attacks on public safety from people who shouldn’t even be in our country,” he noted. He reiterated that the US “must reexamine every foreigner who entered the country from Afghanistan under Biden” and added that “all necessary measures must be taken to remove every foreigner who does not contribute to the country.” “If they cannot love America, we don’t want them here,” he said.

500 additional soldiers in Washington
Trump emphasized that “America will never bow to terrorism” and announced that he has ordered the “Department of War,” as he called it, to mobilize 500 additional soldiers to strengthen security in the capital. “We will make America absolutely safe again and bring to justice the perpetrator of this barbaric attack, if the bullets he received haven’t already done so,” he stated.
Ahead of Thanksgiving Day, he noted that the two wounded “wore our country’s uniform and patrolled the streets of our capital, having taken an oath to defend the nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” He thanked the members of the Armed Forces serving in the US and abroad, as well as the Secret Service and Washington Metropolitan Police, calling on American families to pray for the two wounded National Guard members and their loved ones. “God bless and comfort them, and God bless and protect the United States of America,” he concluded.

The two wounded soldiers were immediately transported to a hospital in the American capital, where they are hospitalized in critical condition. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser and FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the soldiers have not died, contradicting initial reports from West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey, who later retracted his statement citing “conflicting information.”

Investigators identified the suspect as an Afghan national, who appears to have immigrated to the US in 2021 and resided in Washington state. The initial identification was based on fingerprints, while authorities continue procedures for full confirmation of his identity. According to information, the man filed for asylum in 2024, which was approved earlier in the year.
