Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that holding elections during wartime would put the country in serious danger, responding to an appeal made earlier this week by former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who called for a path to be opened toward holding elections.
“I believe that in a war like this one, elections in and of themselves represent an enormous risk,” Zelensky told reporters, describing elections as a “tsunami” that would “split” Ukraine.
Zelensky: Russia plans to mobilize an additional 300,000 troops
At the same time, Zelensky assessed that Russia is planning to mobilize an additional 300,000 troops in its war against Ukraine following the parliamentary elections in September.
Russia may recruit hundreds of thousands of additional soldiers in 2027 in order to achieve its primary objective of capturing the entire Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.
