Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, declaring that the United States is prepared to respond with overwhelming military force should Tehran attempt to assassinate him. In a post on his Truth Social platform, the American president stated that the necessary orders have already been given to U.S. armed forces, which he claimed are at full operational readiness for any eventuality.
Trump to Iran: “1,000 missiles are already armed”
Trump stated that “1,000 missiles are already armed and targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran,” adding that “thousands more can follow immediately” if the Iranian government moves forward with — or attempts — an attack against him. He also emphasized that U.S. armed forces are “ready, willing, and able” to launch strikes for a period of one year — with the possibility of extension — that would, as he put it, “completely destroy” Iran.
“I’ve left instructions if something happens to me” — assassination plot claims and the denial
In statements to the New York Post made just hours earlier, the American president revealed that he has left specific instructions in the event of his assassination. “I’ve left instructions that if anything happens to me, they should literally bomb Iran at levels never seen before,” he was reported to have said.
This is not the first time Trump has raised such a scenario. As early as the beginning of 2025, he had stated that if Iran succeeded in assassinating him, the country would “cease to exist.” However, according to analyses by constitutional law experts cited by American media outlets, a president cannot leave binding military orders to be carried out after his death, as executive authority automatically transfers to the next president upon succession.
Trump’s remarks came one day after a Wall Street Journal report claiming that Israel had informed Washington of an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate the American president. Trump himself, however, cast doubt on the report, stating that Israel “presented no evidence,” while nevertheless adding that he believes he has been a primary target of Tehran for years.
Iran: Chants against Trump at Khamenei’s funeral — “Kill him”
The American president’s latest message comes just days after the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, where thousands of attendees chanted slogans against the United States and personally against Donald Trump.
Videos and images from the ceremonies showed crowds chanting in favor of revenge and against the U.S., with some holding placards bearing messages openly calling for the assassination of the American president.
Trump’s latest statements add further fuel to an already highly volatile relationship between Washington and Tehran, as both sides continue difficult negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program, with military threats once again moving to the forefront.
