The upcoming presidential elections in France will be held on April 18 and May 2, 2027, a government source told the French news agency AFP on Tuesday, confirming a report published by the newspaper Ouest-France.
The vote must be organized between 20 and 35 days before the end of the five-year presidential term
“This will be formalized tomorrow (Wednesday) at the cabinet meeting,” the AFP source added. This schedule was preferred over the alternative option of holding the electoral process one week earlier — on April 11 and April 25 — Ouest-France clarified.
Under the French Constitution, the vote must be organized between 20 and 35 days before the end of the five-year presidential term. Outgoing French President Emmanuel Macron began his second term on May 14, 2022. The first round will take place during the spring school holidays, while the second round will be held the day after International Workers’ Day on May 1.
