“The demining of the Strait of Hormuz is an operation that will be carried out exclusively by Iran, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated today (29/6) in a post on platform X, responding to French President Emmanuel Macron’s comments on the matter. Macron had earlier announced that France and Oman are working together to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and would cooperate with their partners to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz.

“The situation is sensitive and complex — we advise France not to complicate it further with its provocations,” Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister said.
France and Oman agreement on Middle East de-escalation
France and Oman are working jointly to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and will cooperate with their partners to remove mines from the Strait of Hormuz, French President Emmanuel Macron announced earlier.
“We have decided to work together, along with our partners, on the demining of the Strait, in order to secure maritime routes and guarantee free and unconditional passage through Hormuz,” Macron wrote in a post on platform X following his meeting with Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq at the Élysée Palace.
Earlier, Macron welcomed the Sultan wearing the same sunglasses that drew attention at the Davos Forum in January — a choice driven not by the sunshine, but by what his entourage described as a recurring “eye problem.” The French president kept his sunglasses on even during the bilateral agreement signing ceremony inside the presidential palace, standing alongside the Sultan.
