The legendary Villa Certosa in Sardinia, belonging to the family of the late Silvio Berlusconi, appears to be on the verge of changing hands. According to a report by the online edition of Corriere della Sera, the lavish estate is expected to be sold to the royal family of Qatar. According to the same sources, the property is set to be transferred to the Al Thani family for €350 million — a figure considerably lower than its initial valuation of €500 million. The final agreement is expected to be signed with Constellation Hotels Holding Ltd Sca, a Luxembourg-based investment company.
Berlusconi’s villa inspired by ancient Greek architecture
The villa boasts 126 rooms spanning a total interior area of 4,500 square meters, a theater inspired by ancient Greek architecture, swimming pools, and a vast park stretching down to the sea. The Berlusconi family confirmed that it had accepted a “binding purchase offer for the property.” The estate is one where the “Cavaliere” famously hosted numerous foreign leaders — from Vladimir Putin to British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. Villa Certosa also served as a retreat for key figures linked to the notorious “bunga bunga” scandal. It has not yet been announced whether the former Italian prime minister and media mogul’s estate will be transformed into an ultra-luxury hotel or remain in its current form.
