U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on the ongoing attacks against Lebanon during conversations with Israeli officials. Speaking to NBC News, Trump confirmed he had spoken with Israeli officials on Friday (June 19), urging them to agree to a ceasefire with Hezbollah. “You just gotta calm down sometimes and use your head,” he stated.
Donald Trump declined to confirm whether he spoke with Netanyahu
However, Trump refused to confirm whether he had spoken directly with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Regardless, it is clear that the U.S. president continues to closely monitor developments and maintains close contact with Israel. Regarding the U.S.-Iran agreement, Trump said he reminded the Israeli prime minister of the key demand that Israel had long sought. “Think about it, Bibi. The most important thing you’ve been asking for was this,” Trump said, referring to the goal of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. “So I think they’re happy,” he added.

Ceasefire agreement
It is worth noting that Israel and Hezbollah reached a ceasefire agreement, according to information reported by Reuters, citing a senior U.S. official. According to the same source, the ceasefire was expected to take effect at 4:00 p.m. local time on Friday, following a round of consultations involving the United States and Qatar, with Iran also playing a role. “Hezbollah and Israel have reached a ceasefire agreement,” the American official stated.
However, even as the ceasefire was announced, Israel proceeded to bomb the Sezdund area, according to the Lebanese news agency. Drone flights were observed over villages, while an AFP correspondent reported hearing continuous artillery fire in the city of Nabatieh.
Iran accuses Israel
At the same time, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Israel of pursuing a “permanent war,” following a statement by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who said that “all of Lebanon must burn.”
“This is not the raving of some random genocidal lunatic. It is a public statement by the National Security Minister of the Israeli regime,” Araghchi wrote on X. “The genocidal death cult headquartered in Tel Aviv is a threat to all of humanity… Its only goal is permanent war,” he added.
