The earthquake occurred offshore near Mindanao island, causing building collapses and landslides across multiple areas.

The Philippines disaster management agency reported 45 deaths and added that it is still searching for 17 people who remain missing. However, their count does not include the bodies counted by civil defense. According to the latter, Joy Deluvio, 39 years old, was found dead in the rubble.

Hundreds of aftershocks
Search and rescue operations continue despite the danger posed by aftershocks. Hundreds of aftershocks, both strong and weaker ones, have been recorded after the main earthquake.
Most additional deaths occurred in West Davao province. Most victims lost their lives due to landslides and building collapses, according to statements made by Rafaelito Alejandro, a civil defense official, on a local radio station.
