In a recent interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” US President Donald Trump made it clear that he does not intend to lift sanctions or unfreeze assets belonging to Iran. The American leader made it clear that any easing of measures is out of the question before reaching a definitive peace agreement that will ensure complete control and transparency over Tehran’s nuclear program.

The American president clarified that any easing of measures would only be considered after signing a final agreement, characteristically noting that this is a step that “comes after.” At the same time, he added that if Tehran demonstrates the right behavior and does substantive work, then the two sides will be able to start discussions. Finally, Donald Trump made it clear that he does not set Lebanon’s inclusion in a short-term agreement with Iran as a precondition.
Trump also stated that he does not require Lebanon to be included in a short-term agreement with Tehran.
Meanwhile, as Reuters reported, a US draft resolution has been prepared and sent to other member countries of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) council, ahead of a meeting to be held within the week, demanding that Iran provide “specific information” about its nuclear facilities that have been bombed, as well as its enriched uranium stockpiles.
Iran must “provide the IAEA with specific information for nuclear material accounting, as well as safeguarded nuclear facilities in Iran,” and “enable the IAEA any access it requires for verification of the information” without delay.
