The controversy continues in Albania over the luxury resort investment backed by Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, in Sazan-Karaburun, just days after mobilizations and serious clashes in the area as well as demonstrations in the country’s capital. Amid this climate, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama shared a video from a citizen who supports the investment, while also describing the area as degraded.
The 4 billion euro investment and Edi Rama’s harsh reality
Edi Rama published on social media the video and message from a citizen from Vlora, which refer to the Zvërnec area, where a large-scale tourism investment worth approximately 4 billion euros is planned.
The Albanian prime minister speaks of a “reflection of the harsh reality” of an area that, he claims, has been environmentally degraded and abandoned, indirectly accusing political and social opponents of wanting to maintain the status quo and oppose development.
The “enemies of European Albania” and opponents of “tourist Albania”
The country’s prime minister talks about “enemies of European Albania” and “opponents of tourist Albania,” saying that the project will transform Vlora into a top tourist destination and upgrade the country to compete internationally in the tourism sector. At the same time, he speaks of a “hybrid online war” and wishes citizens a good day.
It should be noted that in the citizen’s message, who supports the investment, he emphasizes his desire not to stop the project. According to him, the protected area has been burdened by pollution and uncontrolled waste disposal, while he accuses those who react, saying they don’t care about the environment but oppose development.
Finally, he asks the Albanian prime minister to publicize the video as proof of the situation in the area, saying that the investment will have long-term benefits for Vlora and its residents.
