Russia: Parade without military hardware
According to an announcement from the Russian Defense Ministry, battle tanks, armored vehicles, or missile systems will not participate in the Red Square parade, citing the “current operational situation.” Additionally, military academy cadets and members of military organizations will also be absent.

The May 9 parade represents one of Russia’s most significant events, commemorating victory over Nazi Germany in 1945. This year’s decision shows that considerable resources are being directed to the war with Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drone attacks daily affect targets within Russia. The attacks have caused serious damage. This image stands in stark contrast to previous years.
Political message
Vladimir Putin has repeatedly used World War II victory to support his policies. Diplomatic efforts to end the war with Ukraine have not succeeded, while this year’s parade appears to reflect Moscow’s problems.
