New Democracy is marking 52 years since its founding on Monday, October 5, with an anniversary event unlike any before it — transforming the old OSY bus depot in Athens into an immersive digital journey through the party’s history. The program features interactive games, photographs, historical posters, and experiential activities, while attendees will even be able to digitally transport themselves into the atmosphere of a party election rally. The event is set for 6:00 PM at the corner of Pireos and Ermou streets, and the anniversary evening will culminate in a speech by Prime Minister and party leader, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
New Democracy: A “digital journey through time”
According to the party’s announcement, the event has been designed to bridge New Democracy’s 52-year history — which coincides with Greece’s post-junta democratic era — with modern technology and active audience participation. Organizers have prepared a “digital journey through time,” highlighting pivotal moments from 1974 to the present day. Screens will display vintage campaign posters from New Democracy, its youth wing ONNED, and the student movement DAP-NDFK, alongside newspaper front pages from election battles and other defining moments in the party’s history. A dedicated photography exhibition tracing the 52-year journey will also feature prominently, showcasing not only archival material but also personal photographs submitted by party members.
History quiz and a tic-tac-toe basketball game
The anniversary event will go well beyond a simple display of historical material, with several interactive activities woven into the program. Among them is the quiz “How well do you know New Democracy’s history?” — a multiple-choice trivia game covering party and national historical milestones from 1974 to today. Attendees will also be able to take part in a tic-tac-toe basketball shooting game, with organizers aiming to give the celebration a more participatory feel by blending historical reflection with hands-on activities that keep guests actively engaged throughout the evening.
360 photo booth and a digital election rally experience
Through a specially set-up booth, attendees will be able to digitally immerse themselves in the environment of a New Democracy election rally, while a 360-degree photo booth will allow guests to be photographed alongside the party’s symbols and emblems. At the heart of the venue, a dedicated wall bearing the phrase “New Democracy means to me…” will invite every attendee to write their own personal response. Once the event concludes, this wall will be relocated to the party’s central headquarters in Moschato.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ address
According to the party’s announcement, the goal of this year’s celebration is to combine historical reflection with active participation through a fully experiential event. Interactive activities, photographic and archival material, and new technology applications will all come together to shape the program for the anniversary evening, which will close with a speech by Kyriakos Mitsotakis marking 52 years since the party’s founding.
