Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a face-to-face meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shortly before the opening of the European Council Summit in Brussels. According to government sources, the two leaders discussed the latest developments in Ukraine during the meeting. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Greece’s unwavering support for Ukraine in its efforts to counter Russian aggression.
He stressed, however, that the spillover of military operations beyond the war zone must be avoided, making particular reference to the incident involving the Ukrainian drone that came down in Lefkada.
The two leaders also discussed the prospects for enhanced defense cooperation between Greece and Ukraine.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the European Council, where EU member state leaders are examining, among other issues, the latest developments in Ukraine and the broader security challenges facing the region.
