Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been on the island of Rhodes since Saturday morning (13/06), where he spoke with citizens at a central café in the area during midday. The Prime Minister engaged with citizens to learn about the issues that concern them, explaining the government’s planning across various sectors that affect their lives.
Mitsotakis from Rhodes: “My first duty is to keep my homeland safe”
During his address, he sent a message of determination regarding the protection of the country’s sovereign rights. “Here the sky and sea are a little more blue than elsewhere,” he noted characteristically, while emphasizing that “my first duty is to keep my homeland safe.”
“With everyone’s contribution we have the most capable armed forces our homeland has ever had”
Mr. Mitsotakis also stressed that “with everyone’s contribution we have the most capable armed forces our homeland has ever had,” noting that “investment in defense is not a choice, but a necessity in a country located at a critical geopolitical crossroads.” He also pointed out that “the armed forces are here to defend sovereign rights against anyone who might feel they can covet sovereignty or sovereign rights.”
“New Democracy will be the only party with a credible proposal for Greece in 2030”
Referring to the government’s progress and the upcoming elections, the Prime Minister sent a message of continuity and political stability. As he said, “New Democracy will be the only party with a credible proposal for Greece in 2030,” while clarifying that “what I can accomplish, I will implement, and what I cannot do, I will not promise.”
“Elections will be held in spring 2027 at their proper time”
Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that the government is entering the final stretch of its term, saying that “every day counts,” while reiterating that “elections will be held in spring 2027 at their proper time.” Referring to the long pre-election period that follows, he commented that “we are experienced marathon runners – some others have already run out of breath.”
Addressing friends and New Democracy officials, he emphasized that “we rely on our party base, which is the backbone of New Democracy,” adding that “you supported us and we won the previous elections, and we will do it for a third time.” As he stated, the goal is “to continue our work, keep the homeland safe, and ensure progress and prosperity for all.”
“We are entering the final year of the governmental term”
He also noted that “we are entering the final year of our governmental term,” while emphasizing that “time is running backwards toward elections and we are forming the dilemmas with which we will address the citizens.”
In the economic field, he acknowledged the pressures that high prices cause to households, saying that “inflation has absorbed wage increases, but because we have sound finances we can support households.” At the same time, he clarified that “to be more pleasant pre-electorally, I will not undermine our finances,” noting that “we are not doing all this in a geopolitically neutral period.”
In closing, the Prime Minister criticized the opposition, arguing that “all this against an opposition whose only concern is how to bring down New Democracy and Mitsotakis – we won’t do them that favor.” He also posed the basic political dilemma of the next electoral contest, wondering: “Will we put at risk what we have achieved with experiments we have tried in the past, or with a government that, despite its mistakes, has moved the country forward?”
