Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been in Rhodes since Saturday morning (13/06), accompanied by numerous party and government officials. Mr. Mitsotakis’s visit to the island included significant announcements for the Dodecanese regarding healthcare and port infrastructure sectors, with the prime minister accompanied by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni. Culture Minister Lina Mendoni is also present in Rhodes. The prime minister is accompanied by South Aegean Regional Governor Giorgos Chatzimarkos and Dodecanese MPs Giannis Pappas, Manos Konsolas, Mika Iatridi, and Vassilis Ipsilantis.

During the visit, the Prime Minister gave the “green light” to the South Aegean Regional Governor for the development of the Old Hospital building complex in Rhodes, paving the way for advancing a project that has concerned the local community for years. Simultaneously, he announced the creation of a new hospital in Kos, a development of particular significance for strengthening healthcare infrastructure on the region’s islands and improving health services provided to residents and visitors.
The public statements by both Mr. Mitsotakis and Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis carried special weight, as they expressed their complete confidence in South Aegean Regional Governor Giorgos Chatzimarkos. They also committed that the government will support the immediate implementation of the Old Hospital development plan, recognizing the Region’s decisive role in advancing the project.
Port upgrade takes center stage
The prime minister subsequently visited Rhodes port, where in the presence of ministers, the Regional Governor, MPs, and Dodecanese Port Fund President Vassilis Vagianakis, he received detailed briefings on the port’s development and upgrade plan.

The presentation particularly emphasized strategic port infrastructure upgrades, aiming to strengthen Rhodes’s developmental and tourism role, improve passenger services, and create modern infrastructure that will meet the island’s increased needs.

Additionally, the prime minister will shortly chair a meeting with tourism sector representatives at the South Aegean Region offices, while at noon he will meet citizens at a central Rhodes café to discuss issues concerning them and inform them about government planning across various sectors affecting them.
Subsequently, accompanied by Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, he will visit the “Pervola” archaeological site in Rhodes’s Medieval City, one of the island’s most emblematic locations.
