“It’s not only an honor” but also “significant,” said Kostis Hatzidakis regarding Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ decision to assign him the coordination of drafting the New Democracy government program, the “Agenda 2030”. Specifically, the Deputy Prime Minister made an extensive post today, Thursday (11/06), explaining the reasons why the prime minister’s decision is significant.
Hatzidakis’ criticism of the opposition
Meanwhile, referring to the upcoming national elections, Kostis Hatzidakis made pointed remarks against the opposition. Specifically, he stated that the opposition has decided to conduct elections in a “climate of civil war stone-throwing, toxicity and unrestrained populism.” “Our response will be ‘Agenda 2030’,” emphasizes the Deputy Prime Minister, outlining the program’s objectives.
Hatzidakis: “We don’t play games with our homeland”
Closing his post, Mr. Hatzidakis emphasized: “We don’t play games with our homeland.” “And New Democracy’s program is an opportunity to show that citizens rightfully place their hopes in New Democracy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Not because we haven’t made mistakes. But because we promise less than others, striving to deliver everything,” continues Mr. Hatzidakis, adding: “New Democracy is a political force that, coordinated with international, economic and technological developments, offers modern and realistic solutions, while our opponents offer demagoguery and toxicity.” “So, we’re starting work for Greece 2030!” he emphasizes in closing.
Kostis Hatzidakis’ post
“Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ decision to assign me the coordination of drafting New Democracy’s government program, ‘Agenda 2030,’ is not only an honor. It’s significant, first, because I enjoy tackling future challenges rather than simply getting consumed by daily political disputes. Second, because New Democracy’s program, after 7 years of governance, must make clear to everyone that there are, indeed, new ideas and realistic solutions adapted to today’s needs. We won’t seek a gratitude vote, but a vote of realistic hope and prospect. And third, because if New Democracy doesn’t have a modern and credible program, I fear that with today’s political landscape, no party will have one, with whatever that would mean for our country.
I want to emphasize that while we discuss Greece 2030, the opposition has decided the next elections should be conducted in a climate of civil war stone-throwing, toxicity and unrestrained populism. Some spread conspiracy theories. Others promise 20 salaries and 25 pensions. And we reach the point of seeing a former Prime Minister proudly declaring it was his mistake not to close the banks from his first day in office. To return the country to the Stone Age!
Our response will be ‘Agenda 2030’:
From now on, we have an obligation to keep what’s right, correct mistakes, and in any case accelerate. Because the world is constantly changing. And within this international environment, drafting a realistic yet ambitious government program is not a partisan exercise. It’s much more an obligation to Greek women and men who deserve an even better future.
Our program will emphasize three things: The need for a more productive Greece, with fairer income distribution. If the emphasis so far was fiscal stability and pro-investment approach, from now on the emphasis will be productivity, competitiveness, equal opportunities and substantial support for those truly in need. With emphasis on the family institution, as demographics and housing problems are connected to family. The goal is for us workers to produce more, utilizing modern technological tools like artificial intelligence, research and technology. But never forgetting there are fellow citizens left behind and children in rural areas, especially in mountainous regions and islands, who deserve equal opportunities with city children. We won’t gift the monopoly of social sensitivity to anyone!
Our program will also emphasize a more modern state with transparent operation. The upcoming constitutional revision offers us a great opportunity for institutional restart. With major changes to our Constitution: Among others, revising article 86 so politicians’ responsibilities are judged by Justice, not Parliament. Selecting leadership of supreme courts without governments’ current intervention for better trust in institutions. With interventions modernizing the electoral system and making parties’ finances and internal democracy more transparent. Introducing civil servants’ evaluation into the Constitution and linking it to tenure removal.
And certainly, in an era of geopolitical upheavals and international uncertainty, the country needs to further strengthen its deterrent power, diplomatic presence and role as a stability pillar in the region. It needs to utilize its position as Southeast Europe’s energy hub, lead in new energy, transport and data networks, and ensure its voice is heard with even greater weight in Europe and internationally.
2030 isn’t a random date. It’s when our homeland completes 200 years since the Modern Greek state’s founding. The question is whether we’ll reach this historic milestone having taken another big step forward or having missed another opportunity, confirming that the myth of Sisyphus didn’t accidentally emerge from this country.
We don’t play games with our homeland. And New Democracy’s program is an opportunity to show that citizens rightfully place their hopes in New Democracy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Not because we haven’t made mistakes. But because we promise less than others, striving to deliver everything. That we insist on an honest relationship with citizens. And that New Democracy is a political force that, coordinated with international, economic and technological developments, offers modern and realistic solutions, while our opponents offer demagoguery and toxicity.
So, we’re starting work for Greece 2030!” notes the Deputy Prime Minister.
