The president of Greek Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos, spoke comprehensively on Parapolitika 90.1 radio show “Opposite Microphones” with Vasilis Skouris and Sotiris Xenakis. Velopoulos discussed the potential post-election landscape, emphasizing that New Democracy could form a coalition government either with PASOK or with Alexis Tsipras’s ELAS. He stressed that “Tsipras returned to complete the Aegean agreement, he is America’s man,” adding that he could govern alongside Nikos Dendias, who is “building” his profile while choosing not to attack the Center and Left according to him.
He also spoke about Nikos Androulakis, noting that “he is not a political being,” while regarding Greek Solution’s goal, he emphasized that it is self-sufficiency, closing every door to post-election cooperation. He expressed skepticism about polling percentages, estimating that his party currently has 13-14%, while expressing the view that elections will be held in October.
Excerpts from Kyriakos Velopoulos’s interview on Parapolitika 90.1
Kyriakos Velopoulos initially referred to opinion polls in a brief conversation with journalists, noting: “288 polls in the last 3.5 years. One poll every 3 days. The companies conducting polls receive 20 million euros from Maximos Mansion through project assignments. One company received 9 million euros. A poll of 2000 people costs 12,000 euros,” said the Greek Solution president. “One of the polls I respect is GPO, it comes close,” he added.
Asked about Alexis Tsipras and the second place he occupies in polls, he said he will reach there as he appears as a newcomer. “Tsipras resigned in December 2025, while claiming he resigned two years ago. He didn’t ask a single question in Parliament. He is a liar and hypocrite,” he said, mentioning that he “was laughing” when the Greek Solution president was speaking from Parliament’s podium about Tempe.
“Where did he find the money for the party? The events he has organized are not worth a few thousand euros.” He questioned whether he is “honest,” against the backdrop of his politics after the referendum and regarding Macedonia. About Karystianos he mentioned: “I see a mess: I’m for same-sex marriage and against abortions, she says she took money not to form a party and initially said she wouldn’t form a party, but she is forming a party.”
“We are the same and we remain the same, people greet me,” he emphasized, while returning to Alexis Tsipras, he pointed out that EYP deputy director Mr. Papageorgiou is among those who signed ELAS’s declaration.
Regarding Antonis Samaras and the prospect of creating a new party, he said: “I come from Michalis Charalambidis and Andreas Papandreou’s PASOK. The issue is what I do. Samaras passed the anti-racist law, how is he right-wing?” he emphasized, launching attacks against Charis Theocharis, who characterized the former Messenian prime minister as “far-right.” “I don’t accept the terms left and right.” “Adonis Georgiadis doesn’t know what he is, he is the definition of political chameleontism.”
He emphasized that Samaras’s party will “disturb” New Democracy, from which “the last right-wing detail will leave,” while he sees his move as “political revanchism” against Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “You close a cycle, you go home,” he said.
“Androulakis is not a political being, I was warning him. It’s one thing to be with the umbilical cord of state funding from a young age and another to be a political being, which Androulakis is not. He was cursing us for three years and I was warning him that they would squeeze him like a lemon. Now that he’s dealing with Mitsotakis it’s too late,” emphasized Kyriakos Velopoulos.
Regarding Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he said there’s no chance he’ll be prime minister again, rejecting any cooperation for government formation, noting that New Democracy can govern with PASOK or with Alexis Tsipras’s ELAS. “As far as my forces allow me, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will not be prime minister again.” “Kyranakis destroyed the taxi drivers,” he said at another point, referring to him taking a Secretary role in New Democracy’s Political Committee. “New Democracy is rotten to the core,” he emphasized, saying it can mainly govern with Alexis Tsipras.
“Tsipras returned to complete the Aegean agreement, they put him from the Council of Europe in the Northwestern Balkans, he is America’s man. He will return with a coalition government with Mr. Dendias, who constantly caresses the Center and Left. Dendias looks far ahead, he wants to be unscathed,” he emphasized. “In Dendias’s mind he plans to govern.”
“Is it possible for MPs to come to committees via Skype to get the 75 euros? I forbid this in Greek Solution, MPs must go to the Committee,” he said. “Whoever doesn’t come to Parliament shouldn’t be paid.”
“We will become government on our own,” emphasized Kyriakos Velopoulos. “I’m not a child of the party pipeline, oligarchs don’t push me.” “The distinction is lazy and hardworking: Where do Tsipras and Androulakis have insurance stamps, how much did Mitsotakis work?” he mentioned among other things.
“For 5 years now that we haven’t done asset declaration checks, New Democracy MPs’ properties increased by 250% and PASOK and SYRIZA by 70-80%.”
Asked if he is “pro-Russian,” Kyriakos Velopoulos said: “Neither pro-German, nor pro-Chinese, nor pro-American, nor pro-Russian. There are no friendships, only interests. There are certain values, like the West, Orthodoxy, but I believe we belong where our national interest is served. It doesn’t benefit us to be at war with Russia. Now everyone comes out saying ‘let’s make up with Russia,’ when I was saying it, they accused me of being pro-Russian. The prime minister waged war with Russia while we hadn’t covered our energy needs. We are the only ones who are completely clean, the president puts in the money, we are the only ones who have been audited by Mr. Vourliotis.”
“We go with equal opponents, I only hit the strong, Mitsotakis is strong,” he noted.
Regarding wiretapping, he said “Dimitriadis, Mitsotakis and the others cannot fool us that they don’t know Dilian. I expect him to speak and when he does, the abscess will burst. I won’t forgive anyone, whoever steals Greeks’ money, whoever commits illegal acts, will go to prison and their property will be confiscated. Floridis did well, even though he did it for another reason, to expedite procedures for trials of political figures.”
“The European Prosecutor was wrong to rush in the OPEKEPE case, but not everyone is innocent. Suddenly all of Crete became ‘blue’ with money through OPEKEPE,” he emphasized.
Regarding Greek Solution and how it will govern with the 8-10% it records in polls, he said he doesn’t believe the polls and currently believes his party has 13-14%. “I believe the timing for the prime minister is for elections to be held in October,” he noted, connecting the possible development with the law that went back to Turkey regarding Blue Homeland.
He estimated that now “New Democracy has 19-20%, Mitsotakis will hold three consecutive elections to be the strong factor in negotiations with Androulakis or Tsipras. Androulakis has made terrible mistakes, he created a governability climate, if PASOK comes third in the first elections, they will devour him. I want citizens to vote based on each party’s program, which should be costed and complete.”
“Give me the power to be self-sufficient, I don’t cooperate with any of them, SYRIZA-New Democracy-PASOK MPs increase their houses while the Greek people lose their homes to funds.”
