Speaking on all topics in a Thursday morning interview (4/6), Panos Kammenos declared he is open to cooperation with Maria Karystianou because she has a “clean voice.” Regarding Alexis Tsipras, he said the choice of the ELAS name was wrong but wished him good luck. He emphasized that Alexis Tsipras is positioning himself to take PASOK’s place in the center-left space, noting that PASOK is dying. Panos Kammenos also spoke about Antonis Samaras, who should never have returned to New Democracy.

The “clean voice” of Maria Karystianou and Tsipras’s mistake
Referring to Maria Karystianou, Panos Kammenos said he is open to the possibility of cooperation with her, as she has a clean voice, stating “I believe she will have a very good result, I’m not sure Tsipras will come second.” At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of cooperation with Kyriakos Velopoulos.
About Alexis Tsipras, he said “I see him as young with the experience of the old, without having those underneath who wouldn’t let him act, fearing he might be misunderstood as not being leftist enough,” adding that “the components were giving Tsipras a hard time – for one decision in the cabinet we would debate for three days.”
“I consider it wrong that he named the party ELAS because it excludes a large part of the population. The SYRIZA-ANEL cooperation was the end of the civil war. Back then, the need was to remove the German occupation,” Panos Kammenos said about his cooperation with Alexis Tsipras. He emphasized that “I think using the word patriotic is correct, ELAS is wrong. He has made a turn toward the center and center-left. Let’s not forget what SYRIZA’s roots are, which had components that were even extreme.”
Concluding his reference to Alexis Tsipras, Panos Kammenos said “what he’s doing now is taking PASOK’s position in the center-left space, and we see that PASOK is dying.” He added that they spoke after the Thiseio announcement and “I told him good luck, I told him the ELAS name wasn’t successful because it excludes part of the centrist world.”
Samaras wants to bring down Mitsotakis
Responding about the possibility of Antonis Samaras creating a party, Panos Kammenos said “I know he’s making phone calls. He should never have returned to ND, he’s ND’s killer,” accusing him of “partially PASOK-ifying ND,” while saying “Samaras always does it for personal reasons, they didn’t make him President of the Republic and he wants to bring down Mitsotakis.” “Is it possible that Samaras, who put ND in government with Venizelos, is the soul of the faction? I governed with SYRIZA to overturn Venizelos with Samaras who were leading the country to Germany’s and Schäuble’s cliff,” he emphasized.
Finally, when asked if he will participate in the upcoming elections, he said “I won’t run on the first Sunday, besides no government will be formed. On the second Sunday I would run if a government was to be formed so the country doesn’t remain ungoverned.”
