Today, Tuesday May 26th, US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle made her first official visit to Alexandroupoli, at a time of intense geopolitical significance for Thrace and NATO’s eastern flank. Her presence in the border city was brief but highly symbolic, once again highlighting Alexandroupoli’s role as a strategic hub for the United States, the Alliance, and regional security.

According to Pameevro, Ms. Guilfoyle emphasized the region’s importance for the United States and the bilateral relationship with Greece. “This region has always been such a vital and strategic hub for the United States of America. I was very much looking forward to this trip,” she said characteristically.
She particularly focused on the areas of military cooperation, energy, and supply chains, connecting Alexandroupoli to the broader US and NATO planning in the region.
“It’s not only critically important in terms of the relationship between the United States and Greece, but also for our NATO allies, in the areas of supply chain, military cooperation, and energy. Therefore, we look forward to expanding this effort,” she noted.
Message of support to Greece
During her stay in Alexandroupoli, Ms. Guilfoyle met with local and institutional representatives, speaking of a “wonderful discussion” around issues concerning the region and Greece-US cooperation.
Concluding her remarks, she sent a clear message of support to Athens, emphasizing that Washington recognizes Greece’s role and contribution to allied stability.
“I simply wanted to come to show my respect, my interest, and my appreciation for everything that Greece has done for the United States, as well as to reiterate that the United States will always be an unwavering ally of the Hellenic Republic,” she stated.
