Kostis Hatzidakis visited Mesochora in Trikala on Friday afternoon, May 22, where he toured the Acheloos river diversion projects. “I am here today in Mesochora, in Glystra, in Sykia, because the prime minister has assigned me to coordinate the water management issue in Thessaly,” emphasized the deputy prime minister initially. Mr. Hatzidakis also referred to the irrigation of the Thessalian plain: “Part of the equation is naturally the partial diversion of Acheloos and the completion of related projects. PPC (Public Power Corporation) has and must have a pivotal role in this. But naturally, the issue is broader, with other dams being constructed or needing to be constructed, mountain hydronomy projects, and others. For this reason, beyond PPC we are cooperating and will cooperate with the region, ODYTH, MPs, mayors, in order to move from theory to practice. We owe it to Thessaly, we owe it to our children’s future.” The deputy prime minister initially visited the PPC dam in Mesochora, in Trikala prefecture, where he held a meeting with PPC executives and Thessaly Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas.
