The hearing of EYP (National Intelligence Service) director Themistoklis Demiris at the Parliament’s Committee on Institutions and Transparency has been completed, and according to sources, Nikos Androulakis had a dialogue with Mr. Demiris attempting to learn the reasons why he was under surveillance, without receiving concrete answers.
In fact, the leader of the main opposition reportedly commented that “Mr. Demiris tells us that while all these events have occurred in recent years, he didn’t have the ‘interest’ to learn the reasons that sparked one of the biggest scandals. The first time he came before the Institutions Committee he invoked confidentiality. Now he doesn’t invoke confidentiality but brazenly tells us that he never saw a document with the reasons that led to requesting my surveillance.”
The complete Androulakis-Demiris dialogue according to PASOK sources
DEMIRIS: I handed over the file to ADAE (Data Protection Authority).
ANDROULAKIS: Does the file contain the reasons for my surveillance?
DEMIRIS: No, it only contains the order.
ANDROULAKIS: So you didn’t hand over the reasons why my surveillance was ordered. Where are those documents?
DEMIRIS: Often requests are made verbally.
ANDROULAKIS: Are you saying my surveillance was ordered verbally? Is that what you’re telling me?
DEMIRIS: No, I’m not saying that.
ANDROULAKIS: What are you saying? Have you seen the reasons for my surveillance in any document?
DEMIRIS: No, I haven’t seen them. When an ADAE team came to the service for inspection, we showed them what we had.
ANDROULAKIS: So what did you show ADAE? Something that you yourself never saw, as you just told us? Stop insulting our intelligence. You’re addressing the Greek Parliament and you have an obligation for what you say to be serious. Today, therefore, Mr. Demiris tells us that while all these events have occurred in recent years, he didn’t have the “interest” to learn the reasons that sparked one of the biggest scandals. The first time he came before the Institutions Committee he invoked confidentiality. Now he doesn’t invoke confidentiality but brazenly tells us that he never saw a document with the reasons that led to requesting my surveillance.

Androulakis “fires shots” at Demiris: You’re forcing me to take legal action against you
It should be noted that earlier, according to the same sources, Mr. Androulakis asked the EYP director why he doesn’t comply with the Council of State decision, according to which, as he said, “it must be ensured that surveilled persons can have access not only to the license granting, but also to the application from the authority that requested the license, so they can understand the reasons invoked for granting that license.”
“Why are you exposing the country internationally? Don’t you know the damage this causes to national interests? Do you realize that you’re forcing me to take legal measures against everyone responsible, not excluding yourself? You’re forcing me into something unprecedented in Greek and European history. As leader of the main opposition to take legal action against the EYP Director,” Mr. Androulakis also stated.
