Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis calls it ridiculous that Nikos Androulakis receives €1,000 in rent from the building housing the Land Registry in Heraklion. Speaking to Open TV, Adonis Georgiadis noted that “Mr. Androulakis has no right to point fingers at New Democracy or anyone else.”
Adonis Georgiadis: “Nikos Androulakis is highly favored by the state”
“Mr. Androulakis is a person – not illegally, but legally – exceptionally favored, both he and his family, by his relationship with the state. He is neither a poor citizen fighting for poor citizens nor anything like that. He is very wealthy and highly favored by the state. I don’t know many Greeks who have 1 million euros in Belgium. I, for example, don’t,” emphasized Mr. Georgiadis.
“No one rents a property to the state without wanting to. To rent the property, he entered a competitive bidding process. So if he said he didn’t want to rent it, he’s lying. The state didn’t go to rent it; he went to the state and proposed to rent it. Second, he said he’s been renting it since 2004. What interests me happened in 2008-2009. Let him show us what contract was made and with whom.”
“The property selection was made under PASOK”
“The process for the Land Registry to find a property in Heraklion began under Karamanlis. In this, Mr. Androulakis tells the truth,” noted Mr. Georgiadis, but added:
“The selection of the Androulakis family property was made under PASOK. The date of the committee that concluded with the Androulakis property is October 7, 2009, that is, 3 days after the 2009 national elections. So those who decided to rent it to the Androulakis family already knew that the Androulakis family is very powerful in Heraklion, since PASOK had been elected to government with 44% three days earlier.”
Continuing in the same vein, Mr. Georgiadis noted that “I find it very surprising that they set up the committee on October 7, 2009, so they were waiting to see who would win the elections. That the fact that the Androulakis family, PASOK leaders in Heraklion, wanted their property rented by the Land Registry under a PASOK government didn’t play a role in their decision and in rejecting the lowest bidder – I don’t believe it.”
“If I acted educationally toward Mr. Androulakis, it’s a contribution to democracy. Let me get sued, it doesn’t matter.” “I note with joy that since the property story broke, PASOK speaks more politically. It stopped the fuss about wiretapping, Camorra, mafia and returned to political proposals,” noted Mr. Georgiadis and added:
“If I also contributed to making Mr. Androulakis understand that when you bring toxicity to politics, you’ll eventually get burned by it – if I acted educationally and instructively – it’s my contribution to democracy. Let me get sued. It doesn’t matter.”
“I don’t believe a coalition government is possible”
Finally, asked about the possibility of a coalition with PASOK, Mr. Georgiadis noted that “I don’t believe a coalition government is possible in Greece. Looking at the parliamentary parties, none can cooperate with any other. Some party must win an absolute majority.”
