Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras sends his message for May Day through a Facebook post. “Let’s make this May Day the beginning of a journey of justice, solidarity and honesty that our homeland needs,” writes Mr. Tsipras.
Alexis Tsipras: May Day means resistance, struggle, hope
“A day of remembrance but also of demands, of celebration but also of struggle, May Day marks the difficult journey of workers toward dignity and emancipation. From the bloody May Day of Chicago to Kaisariani and the 200 executed on May Day 1944,” he adds.
“Those whom we now have in pictures, standing proudly before the weapons of the Conquerors. And from the strikers of May ’36 to today’s struggles, small and large for justice, the red thread of struggle, sacrifice and hope continues. Because May Day means resistance, struggle, hope,” continues Mr. Tsipras.
“It means that we refuse to let workers be treated as disposable material and mere statistics. That we raise barriers against over-exploitation and precarious employment. And we never forget that development that does not put real social needs at its center ends up with us seeing numbers prosper while people suffer. Because the only way to honor those who fought before us, the only way to ensure their sacrifice is not in vain, is to never stop fighting,” concludes the former Prime Minister.
